HOW WE SHOT OUR HOME PAGE IMAGE

First things first – let’s face it, professional photographers we are not. But full marks for effort should be awarded to the Word team. Armed with some cardboard boxes, a camera and a camping flashlight we headed out into the desert in Dubai. Charlotte had the headline, Stephen had the idea and camera skills, and Carol had the Landcruiser Prado in what appeared to be the right 4WD gear. With clouds gathering, we had limited time to find the perfect undulating sand dune on which to perch our boxes.
Having found it we jumped out of the car and watched some passing camels while the sun began to set behind the distant cityscape of Dubai. Carol project managed our shoot ensuring that Charlotte didn’t walk across the pristine sand dune (and she would if not shouted at). Carol also wisely filled our boxes with sand to stabilize them. Meanwhile, Steve waited patiently and as the light faded positioned Charlotte at the tripod. Setting his camera at a slow shutter speed, he dashed to the peak of the dune and seemed to be leaping around like a deranged leprechaun brandishing the torch. A couple of times the camera clicked before Steve’s frenetic gesticulation was finished… and we started again. Eventually the result was our homepage. No Photoshop job. No pretention. Real and personal…dare we say it…just like Word.
